Expert-curated reviews on pilot gear, aviation books, and flight training courses — trusted by student pilots and ATP veterans alike. Honest recommendations, every time.
Hand-tested by our team. Every product we recommend, we've actually flown with.
The gold standard in aviation noise cancellation. Lighter than competitors with superb audio clarity on long cross-countries.
The de facto standard for electronic flight bags. Lightweight, bright display, pairs perfectly with ForeFlight for all phases of flight.
Thoughtfully organized with dedicated slots for charts, kneeboard, and headset. Built for years of hard cockpit use in any weather.
Every pilot has a reading list. These are the titles that actually make you a better aviator — not just a more knowledgeable one.
The gear that actually lives in the cockpit. We only recommend what we fly with ourselves.
Ground school without the folding chairs. HD video courses built to get you through your FAA written exam faster — and actually understand the material.
The most popular course on the platform. Covers all FAA knowledge test topics with HD video and full-length practice exams.
Master IFR procedures, approaches, and weather decisions from home before flying in the soup for real.
Everything you need to pass the Part 107 commercial drone exam. Great entry point to aviation for non-pilots.
Pilot Institute has helped over 250,000 students pass their FAA exams. Their pass rate consistently outperforms the national average — a rare claim in online education they can actually back up with data.
We wore both headsets on a 6-hour cross-country. Here's who should NOT buy the Bose — and why the David Clark still wins for some pilots.
Your CFI will hand you the Airplane Flying Handbook. These are the books they read themselves — and never mention in ground school.
We enrolled, completed the course, and sat the FAA written. Here's what worked, what didn't, and whether $199 is worth it.

When Clint Powell recommends a headset, a flight bag, or a training course — it's not because someone paid him to say it. It's because he's used it himself, in real operations, under real conditions.
Clint has built a career that spans nearly every corner of general and commercial aviation. He earned his private pilot certificate and went on to achieve his CFI, CFII, and MEI ratings, spending time in the flight instructor seat before making the jump to professional operations. His first flying job put him in the cockpit of a Merlin IIIB and Learjet at a Part 135 charter operation — where he learned what real-world flying demands from both pilots and equipment. From there he moved to the airlines, serving as a First Officer at Mesa Airlines and then Frontier Airlines in Part 121 operations. After the airlines he transitioned into Part 135 and corporate aviation as a captain, accumulating type ratings in the Airbus A-320, Embraer ERJ-170 and ERJ-190, Learjet 45, Citation CE-650 and CE-525S, and LR-JET along the way. Today Clint works as a contract pilot — bringing decades of experience across every segment of aviation to every recommendation he makes on Eagle Aviation.
He also holds an FAA Part 107 drone certificate, giving him a unique perspective on the rapidly growing unmanned aviation space.
Clint is the chief pilot and architect of the VMAX Program — a groundbreaking national initiative training high school students in aviation through a four-year pathway designed to produce Certified Flight Instructors ready to work immediately upon graduation.
VMAX partners with active-duty military instructor pilots to operate T-6 simulators modeled after U.S. Air Force training standards used at Randolph Air Force Base — the same aircraft used to train Air Force instructor pilots.
Launching as a nationwide collegiate competition in 2028, VMAX is building the next generation of American aviators — and solving the pilot shortage one student at a time.
